Willenhall tamed the Lionesses with a comfortable 2~1 win and it would have been more had it not been for the heroics of the home keeper and the woodwork denying the Town the scoreline they deserved.

With myself rested the young Jodie Allen took my place in the side and produced a sublime performance and the back four all produced strong performances as they managed to keep the home side at bay.

With the Referee asking both sides if they wanted an early kick-off, the game got under way at 1~52pm and inside two minutes Abi Riley picked up the ball in her own half and raced through a startled defence before firing narrowly wide, giving the home side an insight of what was to come.

Against the run of the play Tamworth went down the other end of the pitch and took the lead on 3 minutes with a Superb shot which gave Toni Parkes no chance of getting anything on it.

After a spell of Pressure from Willenhall the home defence finally cracked and Abi Riley chipped the keeper to make it 1~1 on 27 minutes.

Just six minutes later Abi Riley again ran the defence ragged, only to be brought down by the keeper and the Referee had no alternative to give a penalty Jo Byrne stepped up to take the penalty, but unfortunately the keeper saved it and then Jo fired the rebound against the post.

On 39 minutes Rachel Knisis produced a stunning first time cross straight onto the scoring boots of the lethal Abi Riley  to fire home her second of the game.

In the second period Willenhall should have increased their lead on 68 minutes but Lesley White fired off the upright (oohhh…).

Jodie Allen then had a golden opportunity to open her account, but unfortunately fired wide.

Sherrylee Boon then burst of the defence and saw her shot saved by the keeper

Tamworth thought they were going to be given a lifeline on 88 minutes when the ball appeared to strike Stacey Parkes on the arm, but the Referee decided it was accidental and so did our quality linesman who was right in line with the incident.

Star Red : Lesley White.
