Willenhall surrendered their 100% record and their place at the top of the table after battling Dudley United went away with three valuable points, An eventful game that saw the Dudley United keeper taken away by Ambulance after a 50/50 challenge with Willenhall’s Lesley White.
Willenhall made a sloppy start to the game and on 4 minutes Dudley had their first chance, but fortunately for the home side they could only hit the side netting.
Dudley then had another good chance on 10 minutes but shot wide on this occasion after beating a sleepy defence.
Lesley White then managed to force a corner on 16 minutes, but the keeper could only parry Rachel Kinsis corner out for another one.
As Willenhall started to find some rhythm and Lauren Jones fired over on 17 minutes, with their first clear cut chance.
Dudley hit back on 18 minutes but good defending by the classy Lindsay Clews kept them away from goal.
Abi Riley had an audacious 35 yard effort on 22 minutes, but the ball would not come down and sailed over the bar, she then headed wide from another Kinsis corner.
Abi Riley then turned provider for the lively Lesley White, but somehow managed to keep out Lesley’s goal bound effort with her foot.
Willenhall’s defensive lynchpin Sherrylee Boon then did well under pressure to keep the ball away from goal and then on 30 minutes Lesley White and the Dudley keeper clashed as they both went for the same ball, but unfortunately the visiting keeper was knocked out as Lesley White bulldozed her way through on goal.
With the keeper unable to be moved, due to concerns over the seriousness of the injury an ambulance was required and after a Lengthy Stoppage of 25 minutes she was finally taken away by to a local hospital, and this seemed to spur the visitors on, as it had the opposite affect on the Reds who completely lost their rhythm.
After the restart Abi Riley tested out the stand-in keeper only to see her effort rebound off the crossbar and Dudley United then went down the other end of the pitch and took the lead on 40 minutes after a defensive blunder saw the ball bypass three defenders and nestle low in the corner of the net.
After the half-time break the Willenhall’s hardworking Tracey Culloty played a quality ball to Lauren Jones, whose effort was saved well on 49 minutes.
Abi Riley had another effort on 56 minutes, but did not have enough bite on it to trouble the keeper.
Willenhall then replaced an out of sorts Rachel Knisis with the lively Jodie Allen on 58 minutes.
On 63 minutes Willenhall had a good chance to find an equalizer but Lauren Jones fired wide from Lesley Whites corner.
Rachel Poole replaced Tracey Culloty on 75 minutes .
Willenhall had a strong shout for a penalty turned down on 88 minutes as Dudley United held on for a hard fought victory.
After the game we found out that the Dudley United keeper suffered concussion and a Broken Jaw, everyone at Willenhall Town wishes her a speedy recovery.
