Willenhall Town 4     Coleshill Town 2

Willenhall put themselves in pole position for the League title with an impressive hard working performance against league leaders Coleshill Town.

Willenhall who included new signing Titch in the starting line-up attacked from the off and a driving run from the lively Abi Riley saw the Reds take an early lead. Abi's initial shot was parried into the path of the on-rushing Lesley White by the Coleshill keeper and Lesley tapped the ball home from a yard.

The freak hailstorm that appeared early in the first half seemed to spur the Reds on and in the 7th minute Rachel Kinsis doubled the home sides lead with a stunning left foot shot past a bewildered goalkeeper.

Two minutes later Willenhall increased the lead even further when Jo Byrne found the back of the net with another stunning shot.
Coleshill decided to wake up, but could not find their way through a resolute Reds defence at first, but as the Reds sat back Coleshill pulled a goal back on 21 minutes. Sherrylee Boon was harshly adjudged to have brought down a Coleshill player on the edge of the box  and they curled in the free-kick passed  a flat footed Kelly Nicholas to make it 3-1.

Willenhall then dug in and  held out to half-time without conceding another goal as Coleshill started to show why they were top of the league & 5 minutes into the second half they managed to score a second.

Willenhall brought on Leila Hopkins for Lindsay Clews on 52 minutes as they went for a more attacking midfield and it paid dividends as Abi Riley stroked the ball home on 53 minutes to make it 4-2.

Willenhall piled on the pressure and it was only some last ditch defending that stopped them adding to their total. On 80 minutes Abi Riley made a stunning run into the box, only to be brought down by the visiting keeper. Lauren Jones stepped up to take spot kick, but unfortunately fired straight at the post with the keeper well beaten.

Willenhall saw the game out and victory took  them top of the table and the celebrations began soon after the final whistle.
